About Us
An Idea Was Born
The idea of “Fashion Myths” came from years of helping women find great accessories and styles in my Georgetown Boutique called Keith Lipert. That being said, it has not always been easy! No one has been told “No” by so many women as I have. Fortunately for me, most of those “NOs” took place in my boutique. Women of all ages would come in and say “I cannot wear this because of that…” or “I am too this so that will not work on me…” It has been my great pleasure over the past seventeen years to help dispel these myths and taboos and to help women fall in love with new styles and designs that they would never have otherwised thought possible. To achieve this, when working with women in my store, I began to articulate my own vision of how I perceive proportion, color, effect and so on. I was not selling a brand, or a price, or even a seasonal style. What I was doing was exploring with all the different possibilities that exist even if I was met with hesitation. Fortunately for me, on most occassions, by playing with all the options, I have been able to find women new possibilities and have opened the door to so much more avenues of expression.
Say It Loud
On many an occassion, the customers in my store have greatly encouraged me to get out there and share my vision and ideas with the many people who unfortunately cannot make it into my boutique or live too far away. Seeing as hands down the most enjoyable aspect of owning a Georgetown boutique is all the wonderful conversations I have with the people who come through, I finally decided to take that conversation online. And that is where Fashion Myths comes in! This blog is not only my place to share my fashion myths and taboos, but a place where we can have a conversation about these myths. I look forward to conversing with you all, sharing ideas and learning from our conversations. Most of all, I encourage submitting your own myths so we can try and tackle them and share them with others.
So here is to all the funny stories and fashion myths to come!
Who is Keith?
I was born in London in 1957 but moved to New York City in my early twenties and by my thirties I had moved to Washington D.C. to live out my dream of having a fashion boutique. I found a great little boutique in Georgetown and have been an amazing time here since then! For the past seventeen years I have been able to play with all sorts of color, design, proportion, and effects which has had a profound influence on my vision for fashion and all the possibilities that exist as long as we are willing to put the myths we have behind us.
